As electrification becomes a cornerstone of Sweden’s green transition, the importance of a reliable and robust electricity supply is growing rapidly. This episode breaks down the key takeaways from the Swedish Government Inquiry SOU 2025:47, which explores how to ensure future power security.

The Swedish Parliament has adopted a new planning goal: the electricity system must be capable of supporting at least 300 TWh of electricity demand by 2045. This is essential to meet the needs of electrification across industries and households, and to reach Sweden's climate goals.

In parallel, a delivery reliability target has been set. It states that electricity must be delivered where and when it's needed, in adequate amounts, and in an economically efficient manner.

Achieving this will require a massive expansion of power production capacity, grid infrastructure, energy storage, and enhanced flexibility. These developments are taking place in a context of increased system complexity, rapid technological advancement, more decentralized production and usage, and growing geopolitical uncertainty.
